H4Good is a 12 hour hackathon with the purpose of bringing together developers, designers, health and education experts to tackle social issues that can be solved in a short period of time. A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects. This is a one of a kind hackathon focused on social good. Hack4Good will cover areas such as health, security, food/agriculture, culture, education and many more. Each team will be focusing on one of these topics:
  1. Sex Education
  2. Prostitution
  3. Crime in our Community
  4. Health and Wellness
  5. Tribalism
  6. Raising the standard of education
  7. Road Accidents
  8. Food and Agriculture
By connecting experts such as doctors, nurses and other professionals with developers and designer it will create an environment where teams can form quickly, assumptions can be tested and the necessary steps to solving known small issues. Solutions can be put into motion immediately with the end goal of bringing newly formed prototypes for immediate impact testing. The hackathon is going to begin in the morning where teams will be formed and moved through an intense initial ideation. There will be scheduled meet where teams will go ahead with planning, prototyping to testing stages. By mid afternoon we aim to have the surviving teams present/pitch their products/prototypes. Teams will be given 20 minutes to pitch their ideas and solutions to a panel. Winning teams will be chosen based on innovation, execution and the impact the solution is going to make. Winners will get a monetary package and also will be offered a space to work from at iSpace. We would love for you to participate in this hackathon by nominating some member of your staff to represent your department in coming up with useful and practical ICT solutions.
